Spinal cord injury and parenting

In 2013 the Spinalis foundation started a project called “Mamma pappa lam – att vara förälder och ryggmärgsskadad (about being a parent living with spinal cord injury). The project runs for three years and is funded by Arvsfonden. Our aim is to increase knowledge regarding fertility, pregnancy, childbirth and parenting for people living with spinal cord injury.

Spinalis in Botswana
Spinalis Botswana Spinal Cord Injury Rehab Project is a three-year partnership between the Botswana Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Spinalis Foundation in Sweden. The project is part financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The aim of the project is to build capacity for comprehensive spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation within the Botswana Public Health Care Services.

Spinalis in Namibia

On October 18, 2013, the country’s first spinal cord injury unit “Spinalis SCI Unit” opened at Windhoek Central Hospital in Namibia. Namibians, who suffer a spinal cord injury, now have the opportunity to get care and rehabilitation. A Swedish medical team of physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and rehabilitation instructors will assist the staff of the Ministry of Health and Social Services as part of a skills transfer exercise.

Spinalistips

Ideas that facilitate an active life made by and for persons living with spinal cord injury. On the Spinalistips database you can find over a thousand of tips on tools, special adaptations and custom made solutions from persons living with spinal cord injury. The Spinalis Foundation started the project Spinalistips with funds from Allmänna Arvsfonden.

Health and lifestyle

The Spinalis Health Program is a model for health promotion work integrated in the rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injury. The model was developed by the Spinalis SCI Unit and Rehab Station Stockholm, with funding by The General Inheritance Fund (Allmänna Arvsfonden). The initiative for the development of the model comes from the Spinalis Foundation. Parts of the health program is still being managed in the initial project form.
